We are delighted to welcome Dr Mona Suleiman, a postdoctoral fellow at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, to the Boemo group through a BBSRC Flexible Talent Mobility Award (FTMA). Mona is a parasitologist with a background in Leishmania, Strongyloides and soil-transmitted helminths. Her research focuses on developing genomic and molecular tools to improve parasite diagnostics, drug resistance and our understanding of host–parasite interactions.
During her placement, Mona will work on projects characterising DNA replication dynamics in the free-living nematode Caenorhabditis elegans and applying machine learning approaches to analyse helminth sequencing data generated using both Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Sequencing. This placement will foster collaboration between the Boemo Lab at University of Cambridge and the Doyle group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, supporting knowledge exchange across genomics, parasitology and computational biology.
